Bullshit: The New Heroin. And a Swimming Pool of Poo.

What a hardcore bastard of a word.

In a straight brawl, it beats 'economics' by educating the growing throng shouting 'fight, fight, fight!' until they give it concussion with a barrage of now-useless coins to the temple, and it reduces 'politics' to a quivering mess by walking into government buildings and causing the same damage as napalm just by standing there, picking its nails and grinning. It has been more-or-less invincible for the majority of human existence... until someone with a small penis became friends with the word 'subjective' and together they hatched a cunning plan.

To manage the power of this incredible word and its incredible meaning, it was kidnapped and forced to breed with 'subjective'. And then duly locked in a cold, dark cellar; leaving its cross-breed offspring to be courted by those who were threatened by its parent. This modern progeny of 'truth' now spends most of its time hanging around in large corporate offices or other buildings of power, being entertained by political spin-doctors, marketing types, media moguls, religious leaders and propagandists, and has even been seen to mooch around with kooky philosophers or corporate-sponsored scientists who know that without its vague and malleable backup, they probably won't get their self-importance bolstered - and therefore laid.

New 'truth' became the darling of the elite, or those looking to confuse the proletariat for the sakes of population control. And why do the 'powerful' need control via the modification of truth? Because a human wizened to real truth is a free human. A free human is a contented human. A contented human will tell you to stick your 50-hour working-week up your arse and go on to discover that their kids are happier with a few sticks and a tree-house than that migraine-inducing box in the corner and myriad of expensive games that usually involve graphic bloodshed or a plumber that inexplicably kicks turtles. Lots of free humans hazily milling around enjoying themselves wouldn’t be good for banking CEOs looking to snort cocaine off the breasts of the deceased prostitutes laying prone over the fuel-tank of their gold-plated jet skis...

...As we all know; in this day and age, a 'not guilty' verdict costs a fair whack.

To put it bluntly – none of you have the foggiest as to what’s going on. Not really. We are all swimming in the cesspit of bullshit and the lifeguards are showing us a water-hygiene certificate. And we’re buying it. And for those of us who’ve stumbled into the pump-room and are now trying to throw you lifebelts, it’s an impossible job. After all, it’s the lifeguards who have the paperwork to back up their claims – we’re simply asking you to smell the filth or explain to you that it’s the reason your kids are constantly ill and you’re dying of a myriad of diseases. There’s nothing like a piece of letter-headed paper or an Official Line to make the average dullard ignore basic, balls-honest truth.

Let’s try something here. Let’s tell a bit of truth and see how we get on with it. Something simple. Something undeniable after a teensy tiny bit of research.

Iraq.

Saddam was a mentalist. He was a crazy, blood-nuts fuck who killed innocent civilians. Upwards of fifty-thousand of them in apparently. Which is completely out-of-control and utterly inhuman. In anyone’s book, killing over fifty-thousand people is incomprehensible and insane. There is no justification for this. Is there? As a well-adjusted human being, this is revolting and reviling. As it should be.

As a conservative estimate; since invading Iraq, Coalition forces have killed over one-hundred thousand civilians. Justified because we got rid of the dangerous despot.

Do you understand that? Over one hundred thousand. Men. Women. CHILDREN.

And this is your country that has done this. Your race. This has happened in YOUR name. And you still happily vote for the people who organised and executed these deaths.

Fact.

How does it sit? Uncomfortable I bet. Apart from those of you who are in absolute denial.

But the fact that most of us deny the absolute truth is far less extraordinary than the reason we deny it. It is also the same reason that we are lied to wholesale: We are all addicts.

I shall let a much smarter man than me butt in at this moment. Let me pass you over to Dr Gabor Maté:

“Addiction is any behavior that is associated with craving, temporary relief and with long-term negative consequences, along with an impairment of control over it.

People have an addiction to power - they already have power but they want more and more. It’s never enough for them.
Acquisition - corporations that must own more and more.
The addiction to oil - or at least the wealth and products made accessible to us by oil. Just look at the negative consequences on the environment. We're destroying the very earth that we inhabit, for the sakes of this addiction.

And these addictions are far more devastating than the social consequences of cocaine or heroin habits of addicted patients, yet they are rewarded and are considered to be respectable. The tobacco company executive that shows a higher profit will get a much bigger reward. He doesn't face any negative consequences legally or otherwise - in fact, he's a respected member of the board of several other corporations. But tobacco smoke related diseases kill five and a half million people around the world every year. And these people are addicted to what? To profit. And they are addicted to such a degree that they are in denial about the impact of their activities. Which is typical for addicts - denial. And it's respectable to be addicted to profit, no matter what the cost.

So what is respectable and what is acceptable is a highly arbitrary phenomenon in our society. And it seems like the greater the harm, the more respectable the addiction.”
